Nonprofit Day at Broad Street Market Offers Opportunities to Connect and Learn

All are invited to attend Nonprofit Day at the Broad Street Market on Friday, Sept. 19, from 3 to 7 p.m. during 3rd in the Burg. This free event offers an opportunity to learn about local services, explore volunteer opportunities and meet the people who are making a difference across South Central Pennsylvania.

“This event is about connection,” said Erin Gilbert, philanthropic officer for The Foundation for Enhancing Communities (TFEC). “Local residents will be able to talk directly with nonprofits, ask questions and learn about resources that may benefit them or their families.”

Who will you meet on September 19?

Community Connections for Children: The Early Learning Resource Center (ELRC) serving Regions 9 and 10 connects families with quality child care and financial assistance, supports providers with training and technical help, and partners with employers to promote work–life balance and stronger early learning programs.

The Foundation for Enhancing Communities (TFEC): TFEC inspires giving and strengthens the region by connecting donors with causes that matter. Through grants, scholarships and community programs, TFEC supports local nonprofits, empowers students and helps build a stronger, more vibrant future for Central Pennsylvania.

Gather the Spirit for Justice: A welcoming, nonreligious community center in Allison Hill, Harrisburg, it offers supportive services such as community breakfasts, assistance obtaining state IDs and help navigating housing, legal and utility challenges, while working with partners to build common ground across social, racial and economic lines.

Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania: Serving more than 10,000 girls across 30 counties, GSHPA empowers girls to become confident, courageous and community-minded leaders through programs in STEM, outdoor adventure, entrepreneurship and life skills development.

Latino Hispanic American Community Center (LHACC) empowers and advocates for Harrisburg’s Latino and Hispanic population by offering inclusive services that meet immediate needs and build long-term opportunity. The center provides bilingual support such as assistance with job training, English language learning, basic necessities and entrepreneurial guidance from its newly expanded center in Allison Hill. All programs are designed to help individuals and families thrive in the region.

Humane Society of Harrisburg Area: A no-kill shelter serving Dauphin, Cumberland and Perry counties, the Humane Society helps homeless, abandoned and lost animals find loving homes. It also provides a pet food bank, community cat programs and humane education.

LGBT Center of Central PA: The center fosters inclusive communities and holistic well-being for LGBTQ people through social, educational and cultural engagement. Programs include youth support through Common Roads and the History Project, which preserves regional LGBTQ stories.

Tec Centro Capital Region: A nonprofit workforce development and training center, Tec Centro provides bilingual adult education, basic computer training and job readiness support. Free programs include high school equivalency, English as a second language, and occupational training in healthcare and skilled trades.

“Working with the Broad Street Market and local nonprofits gives us the chance to share the vital work that these organizations provide and to connect neighbors with resources that could be beneficial,” said Jennifer Doyle, president and CEO of TFEC.
