EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR | JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Summary:
The Executive Director (ED) of Harrisburg Young Professionals (HYP) is responsible for overseeing the organization’s strategic direction, operations, and programs. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the ED ensures that HYP’s mission, to make Harrisburg a better place to live, work, and play, is effectively pursued. 
Reports to: President/Chair of the Board of Directors, with accountability to the full Board of Directors.
Organizational Mission and Leadership:
Develop and implement strategic plans that align with HYP’s mission and goals.
Provide visionary leadership to staff, volunteers, and members.
Manage staff, including hiring, training, and professional development..
Foster a positive organizational culture that promotes growth and engagement.
Establish relationships with public, private, philanthropic, and nonprofit stakeholders to enhance the organization's mission and impact.
Operations and Administration:
Coordinate with professional services.
Build partnerships with community organizations.
Acts as liaison between Board of Directors and staff members.
Ensure the delivery of high-quality programs that align with HYP’s mission.
Evaluate program effectiveness and implement improvements as needed.
Expand HYP’s reach and impact within the Greater Harrisburg community and region.
Implement effective systems to track progress and measure outcomes.
Work with Board Treasurer to create yearly fundraising goals for operating and programmatic costs
Monitor bank accounts, credit card statements, and deposits
Work with Board Treasurer to approve yearly committee budgets and expenses
Work with Board Treasurer for planning and operation of annual budget
Board Governance:
Collaborate with the Board of Directors to fulfill the organization’s mission. 
Communicate effectively with the Executive Board and Board of Directors, providing timely and accurate information for informed decision-making. 
Assist in the selection and evaluation of board members and support their development.
Collaborate and actively engage with the Board of Advisors by fostering open communication, seeking input on strategic decisions, and ensuring their expertise is leveraged to strengthen HYP’s programs and community impact.
Development and Fundraising:
Ensure financial sustainability through effective resource management.
Develop and implement fundraising strategies to support HYP’s programs and initiatives.
Lead fundraising efforts and donor relationship cultivation.
Achieve a year-over-year fundraising increase of 5%, building sustainable growth while strengthening relationships with sponsors, donors, and community partners.
Community & Public Relations:
Serve as the primary spokesperson for HYP, enhancing its public image.
Establish and maintain relationships with community leaders, partners, and stakeholders.
Advocate for issues pertinent to young professionals in Harrisburg.
Collaborate with the Executive Board to oversee marketing and public relations efforts, ensuring alignment with organizational goals by seeking guidance and leveraging board expertise.
Attends relevant conferences, workshops, and seminars for additional training and/or to educate the community about HYP.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
Minimum of 5 years proven experience in nonprofit leadership.
Proven track record in fundraising, public relations, and community engagement.
Strong financial acumen, including budget management and financial reporting.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups and build collaborative partnerships.
Excellent presentation and communication skills to include public speaking.
Passion for HYP’s mission and a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing young professionals in Harrisburg.
Valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and access to a vehicle.
Position Details:
Full-time, salaried (40 hours per week).
Office based in Harrisburg, PA, with flexibility for remote work as needed.
Core Office Hours: Minimum 12 hours per week in-office.
The E.D. is responsible for the management, upkeep, and utilization of HYP headquarters' office and supplies.
Flexible schedule with evening and weekend events/meetings as required.
Expected to be available for board meetings, leadership meetings, fundraising events, and key programs.
Salary commensurate with experience and performance-based evaluations.
Must utilize Harvest time-tracking tools for accountability and reporting.
