The Capital Area Therapeutic Riding Association

The Capital Area Therapeutic Riding Association (CATRA) mission is to provide quality equine and animal assisted therapeutic programs to the people of the Capital Area. In 1982 Shirley and Ben Nolt were moved to devote their knowledge of horses, their equine talents, and all their resources to develop a place of safety, fun, acceptance, and education utilizing horses, goats, cats, and many other animals. For 40 years, CATRA has assisted over 100 riders and their families every week, for 40 weeks out of the year. Our vision is to be a center of excellence where equines and other animals enrich the lives of people of all abilities to enhance physical, spiritual, intellectual, mental, emotional, and social well-being through a holistic approach.
